Discover ASSESS DHT’s Highlights from November’s Digital Healthcare Events! This November, ASSESS DHT made a notable impact by participating in two events focused on digital healthcare. From insightful discussions to collaborative exchanges.
On 19 November 2024, ISPOR Europe 2024 took place, ASSESS DHT was well represented. Colleagues from NICE – National Institute for Health and Care Excellence enriched the discussions on digital healthcare by presenting their latest article, titled: Developing an Evidence Gaps Tool for Developers of Digital Health Technologies (DHTs): A Scoping Review of Evidence Requirements for Evaluating the Value of DHTs. This research, conducted by Anastasia Chalkidou, Dionne Bowie, and Zoe Garrett, was presented during Poster Session 4 at ISPOR Europe 2024 (ISPOR—The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research) by authors Dionne Bowie and Zoe Garrett.
The poster is available on the ASSESS DHT website here.
On 6 and 7 November, our colleagues Juan Carlos Rejón-Parrilla and Miguel Angel Armengol de la Hoz (FPS) hosted a project consortium meeting in Seville, Spain. The meeting brought together all 14 project partners and was used to discuss ongoing developments and plan next steps in the project’s activities related to harmonising methodologies for assessing digital health technologies (DHTs) in Europe.
The first day of the consortium meeting was dedicated to a mutual update of all partners on key activities performed over the last months, related to the development of a taxonomy for DHTs, ensuring that the full DHT lifecycle approach is reflected in the assessment methodologies, discussions and updates on assessment criteria related to data management, protection and cybersecurity, and other topics.
The second day was in the form of an interactive workshop, diving deeper into two main themes in the project.
Theme 1: Clinical Effectiveness and Economic Considerations – explored criteria and methods for assessing the relative efficacy or effectiveness of DHTs and their economic impact on healthcare systems. The session was led by FPS, with support from TLV and UOXF.
Theme 2: Technical Components and Safety – examined criteria and methods for evaluating the technical aspects of DHTs, including AI validation, cybersecurity, and interoperability, as well as their safety and associated risks in healthcare systems. The session was led by Zoe Garrett and Dionne Bowie (NICE), supported by AIHTA (The Austrian Institute for Health Technology Assessment) and I-HD (The European Institute for Innovation Through Health Data).
In addition, partners discussed needs and opportunities for the ASSESS repository of evidence, led by I-HD.
